Brittanie

Hometown:
I’m a Jersey Girl! Born in Montclair, raised in Rockaway Twp, Ocean Twp for HS/college years.

Class Energy:
Grounding, Steady, Energizing. Be nice.

Fun Fact/Talent:
I studied at the University of Hawaii for a summer during college.

Brittanie DeChino, MS, E-RYT 500, has studied many styles of yoga in her 15+ years as a yogi: Jivamukti, Vinyasa, Kundalini, Ashtanga, Anusara, Restorative, etc. Oddly enough, when she met her teacher, Sri Dharma Mittra, in 2010, she couldn't figure out what she had been doing until that point! Being in the loving presence of Sri Dharma (as often as possible, she goes to New York at least 2 times a month for classes) has helped her evolve into a calm, steady and even more joyful teacher. He has also made her keenly aware that Self-Realization is possible in this lifetime! Among the many lessons Dharma has bestowed upon her, the following are most important: “The greatest cause of suffering is ignorance of your Real Self,” “Always copy the teacher,” and “Your organs are like your employees. If you don’t treat them well, they will go on strike.”

Brittanie is living a life of service and is thankful for the opportunity to live out her dharma in this way. At Flow she teaches group yoga & Pilates classes, private lessons, and co-teaches the Flow Teacher Training programs with Flow's founder, Debra Mishalove. Outside of Flow, she teaches Stress Management at GWU.

Education:

Certification in Power Pilates Mat (2005)

Certification in ACE Group Fitness Instruction (2005)

120-hours YogaFit Yoga Teacher Training (2005-2006)

M.S. in Exercise Science from GWU ('06-'09)

200-hour YTT with Radiantly Alive Yoga in Ubud, Bali (2008)

500-hour Life Of a Yogi Teacher Training with Sri Dharma Mittra (2011)

800-hr Advanced Teacher Training in August (2013-2014)

Brittanie's Teaching Style: Brittanie's classes are light-hearted and filled with joy. They allow the student space to experience the practice in their own way - so they can feel challenging and intense, soft and nurturing, or meditative and focused. She uses her intuition as an experienced teacher to ensure each class serves exactly what the student needs. All her yoga classes incorporate all 8-limbs of Hatha-Raja yoga. Her "Dharma Vinyasa Flow" classes are inspired by the teachings of Sri Dharma Mittra and her "Vinyasa Flow" classes are additionally inspired by Andrea Boyd and Jeffrey Cohen (Jivamukti) and Sada Sat Kaur and Sada Sat Singh (Kundalini Yoga). Her Pilates classes follow the Power Pilates Mat Curriculum and are vigorous and challenging. They also include great music to keep you motivated to work hard!
