Yoga Teacher Training

Welcome!

If you’ve found your way here, something in you already knows that yoga is more than the shapes we make on our mats. It lives in the pause between breaths. In the moment your shoulders soften. In the clarity that arrives when you slow down enough to listen.

This training is an invitation to deepen the practice you already love and explore what supports it beneath the surface.

You’ll build a stronger foundation in your own practice while also opening to the wider landscape of yoga: philosophy, the subtle body, and the everyday practice of awareness. You’ll work with breath and attention in practical ways, learning how presence shapes choice and builds resilience, so what you discover here supports not just your own practice, but your life and the way you share yoga with others. Along the way, you’ll develop skill in alignment, sequencing, and embodied teaching, while cultivating the inner steadiness that allows you to meet yourself and others with clarity, confidence, and care.

Take your time exploring this page. Learn about our approach, upcoming dates, commonly asked questions and most importantly, hear from our graduates.

If something sparks a question, reach out - I’d love to hear from you. Spots tend to fill quickly, so don’t wait too long to connect.

Warmly,
Debra Mishalove , Director of Teacher Training

Teacher Training Overview

Flow has been training yoga teachers for nearly 20 years. Over that time, this program has been refined through experience what prepares people well, what lasts, and what supports responsible & inspiring teaching.

Community-Focused. Confidence-Built.

At Flow, each training group becomes a real community. You’ll grow together through conversation, practice, feedback, and shared experience - and that connection becomes part of the learning.

Many trainings teach scripts and fixed sequences. We don’t.

Instead of memorizing choreography, you’ll learn how to truly understand the practice so you can teach with clarity, confidence, and your own authentic voice.

You’ll graduate able to:

  • Design thoughtful classes across levels and styles

  • Move between restorative and powerful vinyasa with intention

  • Adapt to the real people in the real room

  • Lead with presence and graduate ready to teach

Curriculum overview & Credential

Flow’s 200-hour training follows & exceeds the Yoga Alliance RYS-200 framework, the most widely recognized global standard for yoga teacher training.

You’ll study:

  • intelligent sequencing and clear class structure

  • functional anatomy and biomechanics, taught in practical, accessible terms

  • breath, pacing, and nervous system awareness to support resilience

  • yoga philosophy, history, ethics, and psychology, taught through a culturally responsive lens

  • subtle body energetics, thoughtfully integrated with physical practice

  • cueing, assisting, and cultivating confident classroom presence

  • trauma-aware, inclusive teaching principles

  • developing your own embodied practice, so you feel confident and at ease in poses

  • specialty modules for teaching mindfulness meditation, beginners, prenatal, restorative, and yin

I graduated from the Flow Yoga Center January 2026. It was an amazing experience! From the beginning, the curriculum was shared as well as clear expectations and deliverables to complete training. Over the course of several months we kept a steady pace working through all of the material, having discourse not just about the essentials of yoga and teaching but also about showing up authentically considering the environment and world around us. We had two amazing and very experienced teachers, Debra and Kate, leading us through the training. We also had the opportunity to experience training with some of the other yoga teachers affiliated with the studio, taking very interesting class series such as “flying series” and “restorative/trauma informed”. In a seemingly short time we covered a wide range of yoga specialties- even exploring an Ashtanga series. This is a primarily Vinyasa based training. Overall, this was a great experience and I would highly recommend to anyone seeking to take the best training available in DC. I am grateful for the experience.
— Mavia Hanson, Jan 2026
The program was very well thought through and ecompasseed various aspects needed to become a yoga teacher, from technical, to spiritual, to teaching methods, to insurance and business. The teachers were excellent. Most importantly, we left with a certain vibe or style of teaching that we will carry with us throughout—be effective teacher goes beyond being technically good and requires staying simple and clear in our instructions, staying true to the origins of yoga but embracing its application to modern life, feeling empathy with whoever shows up to class and for whatever reason. The philosophy, structure, and style of the training were driven by the owner Debra who clearly thought through it very carefully. Bringing experts in various areas (technical workshops, neuroscience, trauma, etc) greatly enriched the training. The teaching style was open and inclusive throughout.

Learning, Community, and Support Beyond Training

At Flow, the training doesn’t end when the program wraps up. We stay connected and continue to support you as you grow, both during the training and beyond.

Flow graduates teach in many settings from Flow and other DC studios to wellness spaces, corporate environments, and community organizations. Some go on to open studios, lead retreats, or create teaching paths that reflect their own values. Training cohorts often become close-knit communities, with friendships that carry on through shared classes, reunions, and staying in touch.

After graduation, you’re invited to:

  • assist public classes and lead community sessions at Flow

  • join practice-teach labs for ongoing feedback and encouragement

  • access continuing education opportunities and module refreshers

  • Graduates are also welcome to return to future teacher training sessions at no cost for refreshers or to make up missed content.

I am a better yoga teacher and student because I graduated from Flow’s YTT course. Debra and the teaching team, is not only knowledgeable about the discipline yoga but has a deep passion for developing creative, empathic, and connected teachers. The course taught me how to design thoughtful sequences, use trauma informed language, practice purposeful assists, and grow my voice and presence as a teacher. I feel extremely confident and prepared to enter any studio room, as Flow taught me how to teach from my own practice and embodied approach. I am incredibly thankful for Flow’s mentorship, advice, and offerings. I could not recommend their YTT curriculum more!

A note from our Founder & Teacher Training Director

My yoga teaching journey began on a whim. New to DC, I signed up for a class at a local studio. A simple flyer advertising a Yoga Teacher Training caught my eye. Teaching yoga? Never crossed my mind. But something inside whispered "yes."

I'm forever grateful I listened. While I loved my existing marketing career in supporting social justice oriented clients, within months of the training I was leading my own classes from my tiny apartment, and within two years, Flow opened its doors.

For you, this decision might be more carefully considered. Maybe "yoga teacher training" sits on your bucket list, a lingering possibility you've been contemplating. Perhaps you're yearning for a side hustle or want to learn more about the profound impact this practice has. Or maybe you dream of opening your own studio one day!

Whatever your reason, we at Flow want you to know: we've poured our hearts into making this program exceptional.

For two decades, we've guided passionate individuals like you on transformative journeys. Graduates have gone on to open studios, become sought-after teachers, or find deep fulfillment leading smaller groups. Others use their newfound knowledge to enrich their own lives.

No matter your inspiration, we warmly invite you to explore Flow. Read testimonials, join a class, connect with graduates. We believe we've created something truly special – a space for you to blossom as a compassionate and confident yoga teacher, ready to share the gift of this practice with the world.

Have any questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out, I’d love to meet you!

warmly,

“Where to even begin? Despite the outbreak of a global pandemic, a tumultuous summer of racial injustice and calls for reform, and the craziness of life in between, Flow Yoga Center went above and beyond to offer a fully virtual 200hr YTT that was by all accounts STELLAR. Not only was the depth and breadth of learning profound, but I was also able to discover a community that got me through some of 2020’s toughest moments. I could not recommend Flow Yoga Center more.” — Alex H.
