Yoga For Depression It is estimated that 19 million American adults suffer from depression every year. Depression is not a weakness of character but a medical illness. Yoga is a holistic way that addresses the root of depression. Within our body we store emotional toxins that depletes ones vital life force. This Life Force is what makes us tick and gives us motivation. When our energy channels are blocked, our minds become stagnant and clarification is lost. Although one may have everything going for them, there is a lack of motivation to act, and sense of emptiness. Through yoga I aim to target high charge points where these emotional toxins are stored, and to restore the life force and vitality back into the body. This workshop will empower you to deal with depression, providing a safe place and giving you the knowledge and tools to begin a journey of healing.
Yoga Love Fest- Vinyasa Yoga with live Kirtan Join musician and Kirtan Master David Newman "Durga Das" as he accompanies Debra Mishalove in a special yoga class infusing the power of dynamic vinyasa sequencing, live music and Kirtan chanting - and penetrate deep into opening the heart chakra and your own boundless creative potential. This class will empower you to let go of pain and resentment, allowing the experience of bhakti (love and compassion) to arise. Appropriate for those with comfort in Flow's "Open Flow" class levels.
Kirtan with David Newman Join David (Durga Das) for a blissful kirtan concert! Kirtan, also known as devotional chanting, is a practice that merges the ancient tradition of mantra repetition with the magic of music, thus using sound vibration for spiritual upliftment. David’s approach to kirtan is unique, combining sacred mantras with his original songs of spiritual love and devotion. This union creates a musical context which both appeals to the western ear while maintaining the essence of the eastern tradition. David’s kirtans are joyous, ecstatic, uplifting and at times exploding with energy. His unique sound is captured on his two Cds: “Soul Freedom” (2003) and “Lotus Feet: A Kirtan Revolution” (2005). “David’s music especially his voice elevates the ear and then allows one to dive deep into the sweetness of the heart.” - Sharon Gannon, Founder Jivamukti Yoga. We highly recommend early registration as his last visits filled quickly! Doors open at 8pm! Check out David on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq5C3D5U5gs
Mindfulness Meditation Retreat Insight or Mindfulness Meditation is the simple practice of paying attention on a moment-to-moment basis to our own direct experience. This practice of mindfulness allows us to see more clearly our patterns and habits of holding and resistance, and to accept more fully the pleasure and pain, fear and joy, sadness and happiness that occur in life. As our insights deepen, we develop greater peace and equanimity in the face of change, and wisdom and compassion increasingly become the guiding force in our lives. ----- These monthly half-day "immersion" workshops are ably led by Dr. Hugh Byrne, and are open to new and experienced practicioners. This workshop will provide systematic instructions on working with all elements of our experience to develop concentration and cultivate insight. During the workshop, we will alternate periods of instruction, sitting and walking meditations and dialogue.
