Dance Offerings at Flow

Flow's class offerings are a vibrant celebration of life.  We are devoted to creating an atmosphere which encourages freedom - in movement & expression - cultivating both passion and creativity in our community.  Our dance classes are direct expression of our goals!  In addition to our regularly scheduled dance classes, Flow offers joyful workshops in dance and movement.  (Past workshops have included Strictly Samba, Yoga Trance Dance, Salsa Night and Shake Your Chakras!)

Afro-Brazilian Dance
Carnival at Flow! Afro-Brazilian dance combines the rich history of the Yoruba religion as transplanted in Brazil along with the unique rhythms of Samba and Samba/Reggae as well as other Caribbean influenced movements. Each class begins with a warm up session feature progressive Afro-Brazilian flexibility movements and stretching exercises. Following the warm up students will be introduced to a variety of traditional and contemporary dance steps. Lively foot movements accompanied by elegant hip, shoulder, and arm gyrations are then added, creating a dance that includes the entire body in a fully traditional representation of Brazilian culture. Be prepared to laugh, move, sweat and have fun. Hot LIVE music/drumming accompanies each class. A perfect compliment to any yoga practice!

Christine Davis graces Flow with her touch as a dance teacher, yoga teacher and massage therapist.   She loves that something as joyful as yoga can be used as a tool for something as (sometimes) serious as personal growth. She took her first yoga class in ‘89 at Sarah Lawrence College, where she was inspired by the gentle nurturing of her teacher.  Christine spends most of her week giving Therapeutic Massage to the Flow community. Other times she is either teaching or taking yoga, Shake Your Soul and West African dance classes or spending time with nature in Charlottesville.  Her students are drawn to her nurturing and enthusiastic energy coupled with her deep knowledge and healing of the emotional body.  Christine’s yoga teaching is inspired by many styles, most recently Anusara and Vinyasa. She is certified with Shake Your Soul/Kripalu Dancekinetics, The Yoga Alliance, ACE, National Board of Therapeutic Massage, and massage licenses in Washington State.
