Join us for an 8-week MBSR program and learn to mobilize your mind and body to take charge of your life and cope more effectively with stress. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a transformative eight-week program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts to systematically teach methods of reducing stress and enhancing well-being and peace in daily life.
The MBSR course consists of eight weeks of 2 ½ hour classes – the first and last classes are 3 hours – with one full day retreat. Classes are highly participatory and practical. The course includes:
Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices (sitting and walking) Gentle stretching and mindful movement (Qigong) appropriate for all ability levels Exercises to bring mindfulness to challenging situations in everyday life Practice with small and large group discussions Daily at-home practice with specially designed materials Cushions, chairs, & mats will be provided; wear comfortable clothing.
Dates: Eight Sundays from March 2nd to April 20th, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm, (1:00 to 4:00pm for the first and last class), and a full day retreat on Saturday (date TBD)
Location: Flow Yoga Center, 1450 P Street, NW.
Teacher: Hugh Byrne, Ph. D., teaches with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington and the Smithsonian Resident Associates Program. He has trained in MBSR and in Somatic Experiencing, a mind/body approach to healing trauma. Hugh has taught meditation retreats nationally with Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Phillip Moffitt and others, and leads a weekly mindfulness meditation class at Flow Yoga Center.
Tuition: $525 for 8 weeks of classes, all course materials, and the full day retreat; supplies to use in class are provided.

Once your application is received and approved, you may pay the course fee of $525 online to reserve your place. The class that will be limited to 20 participants. Alternative payment arrangements may be available upon request.
